Recruitment and Selection Process

At Nissan, our experienced Human Resources team work closely with line management carefully defining the selection criteria for the vacant roles, ensuring we source the right person for the vacant role. Nissan taps into a broad network of talent right across Australia through developing close working relationships with specialist recruitment agencies.

The key recruitment and selection steps are outlined below:

Application

Sourced through specialist recruitment agencies, internal referrals, unsolicited applicants and tapping into our professional networks across Australia.

Applications to consist of CV detailing work history, copy of qualifications (where relevant) and a cover letter addressing the selection criteria.

Selection

Application reviewed against set criteria. This step is often completed initially by a recruitment consultant before being forwarded to the Nissan HR team.

First round interview with HR and the line manager at Nissan's premises. This interview will assess the applicant's ability across the key selection criteria.

Second round interview for shortlisted applicants will delve further into the complexity of the role and may include a workplace assessment, where the applicant will be given time to assess a case study and present their recommendations.

Reference checks - all candidates are reference checked prior to starting with Nissan. Suitable referees are individuals with whom you have previously worked, preferably your direct manager. Further guidance will be provided when relevant.

Offer

A verbal offer of employment will be made to the applicant by the Nissan HR team.

Following acknowledgement of interest from the applicant, a formal offer of employment will be made in writing.

Application to accept offer of employment in writing by returning a signed contract of employment.

Onboarding and Induction

The applicant will undergo an onboarding and induction phase where they will be introduced to the Nissan Way, Mindsets and Actions, ensuring they gain a thorough understanding of how Nissan operates at both a strategic and operational level.

Interview Tips

We know that job interviews can be a stressful process but they don't need to be, especially if you have prepared well in advance. We hope these tips will help. As with many things, preparation is the key. Don't be late. There is no worse way to begin an interview than to be late. Plan to arrive at least 10 to 15 minutes before your interview is due to start. Parking is not a problem at our offices in Dandenong, both Head Office and the Casting Plant have ample parking for visitors.

Be yourself. Speak clearly and enthusiastically about your experiences and skills. Be professional, but don't be afraid to let your personality shine through.

Address the job criteria. Nervous energy is good but not if you come to the job interview unprepared. It's to your advantage to carefully research the job and Nissan. Information about Nissan can be found on our website or alternatively through your contact person at Nissan.

Come Prepared. Know yourself - your strengths, weaknesses and accomplishments. A job interview is not the time to wing it! At Nissan our selection process combines behavioral interviewing techniques (first round interviews) with workplace assessments simulating realistic workplace situations (second round interviews). Your contact person will be able to answer any questions you have about the interview process prior to attending an interview with Nissan.

Dress Code. At Nissan the dress code varies from business casual to formal business attire in Head Office through to clothing that meets OHS regulations in our Warehousing and Casting Plant facilities. Ask your contact person if you are unsure of what would be appropriate attire for your interview.

Listen Carefully. Listen carefully to the questions and if you don't understand a question, or did not hear it properly, ask for clarifiction. You are welcome to take your time before answering the questions.

Provide Examples/Details. Support statements about yourself with specific examples. For example, when preparing for the interview, think about specific situations you have been in, what was your role in that situation and how you resolved the issue/what was the outcome. Being able to discuss in detail will provide legitimacy and context to your claims and will enable us to make the decision as to why we should give you the job over all other applicants.

Provide concise responses. Communication is the key to successful interviewing. Keeping your responses short will enable the interviewer to gain insight into your intellect whilst enabling you to cover a number of your key strengths within the interview timeframe, leaving plenty of time for your questions at the end of the interview.

Ask Questions. If you have questions regarding the process, job or Nissan in general don't be afraid to ask. At Nissan the interview is a two way process and we are interested in answering any questions you may have.
